ZS Selected to Lead the Building Envelope Rehabilitation of Detroit’s Fisher Building – The Largest Marble Clad Commercial Building in the World

ZS was recently selected by the Owner of Detroit’s Fisher building as the Engineer of Record for the 100% restoration of the exterior facades of the building. ZS is currently developing the plans/construction documents and will be providing construction administration services for the rehabilitation and restoration of the building.

Detroit’s Fisher Building is a designated National Historic Landmark, a Michigan State Historic Site, and is widely considered one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Frequently referred to as “Detroit’s largest art object and the largest marble clad commercial building in the world”, the Fisher Building is a prime example of the grandeur of the early days of automotive production in the Motor City. The exterior is an Art Deco design of enormous scale and proportion, with a carved-relief High Gothic overall massing effect. Granite and marble from across the United States and the world adorns the whole of the exterior, giving the building the appearance of being carved from a mountain rather than built from the ground. The interior is a highly ornate combination of marble and granite cladding and painted artworks and frescoes.
