Background

ZS was contracted to perform laser scanning and structural design for the installation of a new robot support frame in an industrial facility. The project began with ZS performing laser scanning above and below the floor where the proposed frame was to be located. The floor consisted of steel check plate welded to supporting beams and could not be removed prior to installation. The point cloud generated from the laser scanning allowed the project team to virtually “thread the needle” where the support frame posts would penetrate the floor to avoid costly relocation of the existing piping and utilities. As a result, construction was seamlessly performed without conflict or schedule delays.
