Building Access / Fall Protection

Building Access and Fall Protection systems are primarily used with davits and platforms as a rigging system for suspended scaffolding to maintain the exterior building enclosure components (e.g. window washing, sealant replacement, and facade repairs). The ZS team of building scientists, technicians and engineers are well-versed in the provisions of OSHA, ANSI, ASME and IWCA as they pertain to Building Access and Fall Protection Systems. Our past experience varies from retrofitting existing buildings with Anchors/Horizontal Lifeline/Davit systems to specifying state-of-the-art motorized, Building Maintenance Units (BMU) on new high-rise buildings.

In addition to design, ZS also performs on-site testing, certification and training for new and existing systems. Our trained technicians utilize hydraulic apparatus, custom designed test equipment and load cells to test access equipment in conformance with the applicable standard.  Upon completion of testing, a formal report signed and sealed by a licensed engineer will be provided and anchors will be tagged with the date of certification.

Our design, inspection and certification capabilities include:

  • Fall Protection Anchors
  • Tie Backs
  • Davit base and Arms Systems
  • Horizontal Lifelines (HLL)
  • Permanent Installations (PI)
  • Window Anchors
  • Guardrails
  • Hole Covers
  • Boatswain Chair Access
  • Stabilization Anchors
  • Roof Plans with Safety Access System identification
  • Fall Protection System Use Logs

As with all ZS engineering projects, the team objective is to meet and/or exceed applicable codes and regulations. ZS’s experience and knowledge base allows administration of a plan of action to design or inspect exterior maintenance access systems effectively and efficiently with focus on quality and cost.
