Owner

City of Milwaukee, Department of Public Works

Location

Milwaukee, WI

Completion Date

2016

Background

The Historic Landmark Milwaukee City Hall was constructed in 1895. The building is 350 feet all at its highest point and the exterior is constructed from a combination of sandstone, granite, and terra cotta. The building has undergone multiple renovations since its inception including a two year facade restoration project completed in 2014.

Challenges

ZS was retained to perform 3D laser scanning (LiDAR) as part of a long term facade monitoring program for City Hall. The project involves laser scanning the exterior at periodic intervals and utilizing the data to remotely monitor movement through state-of-the-art plane and cloud-to-cloud deviation analysis.

The scope of work for this project included:

  • Laser scanning from ground level and roofs of adjacent buildings.
  • State-of-the-art plane and cloud-to-cloud deviation analysis of scan data.
